Description
The woman grows out of her own gown as out of a spreading night — the lower it falls, the more gold, as if the dress were turning into a starry sky at her feet. A young woman with long chestnut hair stands in a slight turn, looking straight at the viewer with a gentle smile. She wears a long dress densely covered with a coiling, scroll-like ornament rendered in metal leaf, which at the hem spills into a wide, shimmering train filling the whole foreground. The background is a gradient of dusk pink and blue; to the left hangs a narrow crescent moon.
