Description
A Polish, denser, darker Vermeer milkmaid — cats in place of angels, milk as the matter of grace. In a rustic, light-filled interior with a small stained-glass window and a wicker basket, a young woman with a mane of black curly hair stands by the table in a red silk dress; she pours a stream of honey or milk from a copper pitcher into a clay pot; beside her, on and under the table, two black cats, and pieces of bread on the counter.
